How this works AKA What's an open seminar?

This event is firmly in the tradition of what most people call open online courses such as Connectivism and Connected Knowledge (http://ltc.umanitoba.ca/connectivism/) and David Wiley's Intro to Open Education (http://www.opencontent.org/wiki/index.php?title=Introduction_to_Open_Edu...), open because anyone who wishes can participate and learn. I've chosen to call this an open seminar instead for a couple of reasons. There is not a for-credit option, and I imagine this as more of a discussion of issues than an exercise in learning a particular something, so it seems to lend itself better to the seminar label. We'll scaffold our discussions around DIY U by Anya Kamenetz, but it is merely a point de départ. For those who don't have the book or don't wish to read it, there will be other suggested resources on each topic. I hope that those participating will do some of the suggesting. The seminar will run from September 7 - October 26. Check back in the next couple of weeks and you will hopefully see the schedule and resource lists appear. For those who haven't participated in this sort of thing before, it's designed to be very flexible. Feel free to choose which resources to read and not read. This site includes a discussion forum and a place for blogs, but if you blog somewhere else, by all means blog there, or post to twitter, or tag resources in delicious or diigo, or whatever works for you. I hope to be able to aggregate feeds so we can find the various contributions in one place. I'm going to suggest #dotedubust as a common tag, I look forward to our learning together.
